8 is right around the corner! January 11, 2011

Filed under: Silas — gallyfam @ 1:51 pm

So, our oldest son, Silas, will be turning 8 one week from tomorrow.  (pause, catch breath, blink back tear)

I can hardly believe it.  All of us parents and aunts, uncles, and grandparents understand why it’s such a bittersweet thing to celebrate yet another birthday in your child’s life.  I’m so proud of the boy Silas already is and the young man that he is becoming.  It’s just hard to admit that time will never rewind, that he’ll never go back to being the little boy, the toddler, the baby that he used to be.  What else can we do except spend a few sentimental moments here and there looking at photos of him from years ago, give him tight hugs everyday and tell him as often as possible how very crazy we are about him.  When I struggle to know how to pray for Silas, I simply ask God to  help him grow into the young man that He created him, designed him and dreams for him to be…

Anyway, I thought I’d share with you some of the most recent 2nd grade writing that Silas has brought home from school.  They are learning how to write a good paragraph, complete with a topic sentence and a conclusion.  You’re about to find out just how much Silas LOVES Pokemon…

Here comes my favorite part.  Sorry it got a little wet  and the ink bled through to the other pages.  This is Silas’ illustration of his Pokemon store, “PokeCity:”

I love these little stories! So precious to capture these memories. Yesterday, I saw a guy in the grocery store wearing a t-shirt that said “unite” on it and it reminded me of us looking through the dictionary to find opposites using the same letters (UNITE and UNTIE) for Mr. Larson’s english class. I told Jake the story and I think he thinks we might have been crazy… such good times.
